Herons beaten 52-10 in Suffolk on Saturday

David Wiggins was left to rue a high number of injured absentees for Wanstead in their 52-10 loss at Southwold in London Two North East — but insists that is not the reason why his side lost.

The Herons saw a three-game winning streak in the league come to an end with a heavy defeat in Suffolk.

The Roding Lane North, however, were missing several players after they sustained injuries in the win over Harlow the previous weekend.

Director of rugby Wiggins admits that hampered Wanstead’s preparation for the Southwold clash, but admits the Suffolk club were worthy winners.

“The problem was that we were without most of our backline because of injuries picked up against Harlow,” he said.

“Five of our seven backs that started against Harlow were out for the game against Southwold, so our continuity was broken.

“We can have no complaints with the defeat, though, as we were outplayed by Southwold.”
