Herons collected third straight league win with 22-15 victory over Harlow

David Wiggins hailed Wanstead’s spirit after a 22-15 win at home to Harlow in London Two North East.

The Herons made it three wins in a row in the league, and were able to collect a bonus point for scoring four tries.

Tony Sweeney scored a brace of tries in the win, while Rory Thomas and Bradley Reece also dotted down for the Roding Lane North outfit.

Victory saw Wanstead keep pace with the early leaders in the league, and director of rugby Wiggins was delighted with the determination shown by his team.

“The game went exactly how we thought it would: it was hard and uncompromising,” he said.

“We were down to 12 at one stages because we had two go off injured after we used all of our replacements, and we had another in the sin-bin.

“The boys showed a fantastic team spirit to hold on to win, and it was a great effort from them.”
