Dylan West scored two tries as Wanstead under-15s for the season off to a good start with a 31-14 win over Harlow.

The Herons were soon into their stride and, from a tap penalty, West saw gaps in Harlow’s defence to go under the posts for a try converted by Harry Turner.

Another penalty saw Mason Noble and Turner combine and West go over for another converted try.

And man of the match Andrew Jones broke free to set up Peter Oriakhi after the restart, before Harlow scored from a quick breakaway.

Wanstead hit back as Turner and West combined for Sid Robinson to go over for a converted score.

But the visitors scored again and Jones was held up just short before Brandon Smith took a great offload to secure a convincing win.

Wanstead: Smith, Noble, Chapman, Saunders, Driver, Heavey, Oriakhi, Jones, West, Turner, Robinson, Anillo Rodil, Loyal, Batstone, Steel, Phillips, Jacklin, Mears, Cottrel, Sullivan.
