Archant

Wanstead under-16s progressed in the Essex Cup after a thumping 60-0 win away to Chingford.

Andre Eversley was on hand to push over to open the scoring for the visitors, though the conversion was missed.

Within minutes of the restart, Wanstead added to their lead with Harry Gipson crossing, though again the extras were not added with the score 10-0.

Dan Sacks was next to cross for the young Herons, with the conversion kicked by Luc McNally-Drew.

The Wanstead pack helped set up try number four, using their strength to their advantage and allowing Gipson to cross for an unconverted score to make it 22-0.

With the half drawing to a close, Gipson was able to complete his hat-trick, before McNally-Drew added the extras from the tee.

The second half followed a similar narrative to the first, with Gipson running in his fourth try early on, though the conversion was missed.

Everlsey then joined Gipson in being a multiple try scorer in the game, stealing a lineout before crossing the whitewash with the conversion added to make it 41-0.

Dan Grech, McNally-Drew and Gipson scored the final three tries of the game for Wanstead, two of which were converted, to complete the rout.

The victory was a fine success for the youngsters, who continue to go from strength to strength this season.

And the young Herons will hope to turn in a similar display on their next outing as they look to maintain their recent unbeaten run for as long as possible.

Wanstead: Chapman, Driver, Eversley, Fair, Gipson, Grech, Green, Jones, Kamuss, Kosev, McCarthy, McNally-Drew, Padfield, Petty, Sacks, Savin, Silcott, Weeden, Welley-Hardy, Woodroofe.
