Herons triumphed 27-23 at Coops on Saturday

Wanstead head coach David Wiggins described his team’s display as ‘workman-like’ following a 27-23 win at Old Cooperians in London Two North East.

The Herons made it back-to-back wins over teams from Havering, having beaten Coops’ borough rivals Romford the week before.

However, the success over Coops was a lot narrower for the Roding Lane North club, with Wiggins believing his side showed good resolve to dig out the triumph.

“It was an important win and a workman-like display from us,” said Wiggins.

“That was the first time we’ve ever beaten Old Cooperians and they had a lot of players back from injury for the game.

“We know we can play better, but there were times when we were stopped from playing. It was a tussle, but it’s what you have to expect in this league.”

The win leaves Wanstead second in the table, five points adrift of leaders Rochford ahead of hosting third-placed Norwich on Saturday.
