People had been waiting for an emphatic Barking win all season, and they certainly got that at the weekend.

Although it was only 11-0 at the break, the Gale Street side had dominated their opponents, who for large chunks of the match looked to be feeling the effects of playing their third game in seven days, after a 22-22 draw to Wharfedale in a rare midweek outing.

There was a raft of chances for the home side in the opening period, but on several occasions they let them slip away.

But the second half effort showed just what Barking can do at their attacking best, going on to score a further nine tries to send out a timely message to league leaders London Scottish

Coach Alex Codling ringed the changes, with players like Jack Gash, Scott Shaw and Nick Auterac showing him just what they can do when given the chance.

Their attacking intent was highlighted in the early exchanges with plenty of possession, but on a number of occasions they fell short of the try line.

But they soon broke the deadlock when Barking were awarded a penalty and Henry Staff, taking the kicking duties from the rested Adam Armstrong, slotted it over the posts.

Sedgley Park spent very little time in Barking’s half and when they did the boot of Stephen Nutt was found wanting, as he missed two penalties with their only opportunities of the half.

Barking did finally register a try that their play had deserved just after the half hour mark when the ball worked its way out to the left and Shaw was on hand to hold off two challenges on his way to the try line.

It was an as dominant first half as many Goresbrook supporters had seen, yet it wasn;t reflected in the score line.

That was until the second period when a nine-try blitz secured their biggest win of the season.

Staff’s boot made it 14-0 before two tries in three minutes knocked the stuffing out of their Lancashire opponents.

Shaw scored the try of the match as he gathered Will Nelson’s kick forward before jinking his way inside, beating three flaying Sedgley Park tackles to score under the posts with everyone at Gale Street rightly applauding a superb effort from the winger.

Nick Fraser then intercepted a pass to go through unchallenged, with Staff adding the extras for a 28-0 lead.

But the visitors showed signs of a slight revival as Richard Wainwright forced his way over the whitewash to claw it back to 28-7, but any hopes were soon dashed with another two tries in three minutes from Scott Shaw, to complete his hat-trick and a solo effort from Staff for a 42-7 lead

Barking continued to lay siege on the Sedgley Park defence and went onto record a further five tries through Fraser’s second of the match, alongside Scott Alfeld, Shaw’s fourth of the match and a brace from top try scorer Dave Vincent to complete the 75-7 win.

Barking: Vincent, Fraser, Staff, Alfeld, Shaw, Nelson (H Owens 56), Gash, Auterac, Cobb, Liffchak (MacKenzie 56), Lloyd-Jones, Thomas, Ngan (Stembridge 59), Andrews (J Owens 62), Griffiths.
