Five-star first half ensures 12th league win

Eton Manor bounced back following their first defeat of the London One North season to put six tries past North Walsham at the weekend.

The New Wilderness outfit crossed over five times in a productive opening half, before adding another in the second for a 36-7 success over the Norfolk side.

Jamie Connors team came under pressure from Walsham initally, but soon kicked into gear and scored their first try early on through Kevin Reed.

Ian Edwards set the Manor pack up for a driving maul and Reed grounded for their opening score after eight minutes.

Callum McKie missed the conversion, but kicked into touch shortly afterwards to set up another try.

Another driving maul hurt Walsham and this time Edwards was the profiteer, going over for their second score of the afternoon.

The extra weren’t added, but the pressure continued from the hosts with McKie again prominent in the third try.

He ghosted past his man before passing out to Chris Jones, who had too much pace and crossed over – but the conversion was again missed.

The visitors replied afterwards with a try of their own, to made it 15-7 with 10 minutes of the half remaining.

This stung Manor into action, though, and captain Tryson Goodchild and Nick Horton combined for Ben Lockyer to go over.

The extras were added this time and Connors team won a penalty try before the interval to come in 29-7 to the good.

Poor second half conditions and some individual errors meant they had to wait 20 minutes before adding to their tally after the break.

McKie was again at the heart of the move as he fed Michael Eghan, who broke through two tackles before running half the length of the pitch to score under the posts.

That made it 36-7 with half of the second period remaining, but Manor couldn’t add to their tally and had to be content with a 29-point win.
