Ilford Wanderers progressed into the final of the President’s Shield with a 19-0 victory against local rivals May & Baker last weekend.

Injuries and unavailability stretched the Wanderers squad but they were in no mood to lose to the Bakers, scoring three first-half tries to seal the win.

Ilford were first onto the offensive, pressurising a Bakers player to stray offside, and with advantage being played Ilford chipped the ball to the corner for Tom Clancy to pounce.

Bakers tried to force a way back but winger Carl Anka collected a kick and took off on a mazy run, before moving the ball to Clancy, who picked out Alex Dean to score.

When Clancy was stopped close to the line again, the ball was moved to Jason Taylor to score and he said: “Its great to be in the final but we will be up against a tough side, so we need to keep focus and make sure our defensive record keeps progressing.”
