Archant

The Wanderers travelled to the Essex countryside for another top of the table clash and this time they emphatically took the honours with a 34-14 victory against Old Brentwoods with a much changed side.

Although the changes meant starting with four forwards in the backs, Ilfords direct and compact appoachserved them well, especially Hooker Ollie Bird who was the beneficiary of two catch and drive lineouts to score and give the visitors what turned out to be an unasaillable lead.

After kicking a penalty for a 0-15 lead, Ilford scored again with Ryan Cord finishing off a flowing move.

Fly half Alex Dean then added another after spotting a gap in Brentwoods defence.

After half time Ilford continued to attack, this time Lawrence Brown smashing through the home sides defences and passing to centre Dave Humphreys who made a neat change of direction to find winger George Darling steaming up outside to score.

Old Brentwoods hit back with two tries of their own but it wasn’t enough.
