Hainault Bulldogs under-16s beat teams from all over London to win the WCAM Challenge Shield on Saturday at the Redcroft Fire Kennel.
The rugby league side competed in a round-robin tournament to see which two teams would compete for this prestigious award.
A strong Bulldogs squad won all four of their group games, amassing 48 points and, with a huge defensive effort, conceded no tries throughout the event.
The final, against Medway Dragons, was a tight affair, but forwards Lewis Brunger and Jimma Montgomery put the Bulldogs backs in the right position to strike with Greg Dordoy scoring the first try in the corner.
Despite going down to 12 men, Hainault’s defence was able to keep at bay wave after wave of Medway attacks and deny the Dragons an equalising try.
Dordoy’s man of the match winning performance saw him score again in a final minute breakaway try to round off a great day with an 8-0 win.
The Bulldogs currently run under-16s and under-18s sides that train on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with new players always welcome.
The club also runs a Saturday fun club for children aged 7-11 who may also wish to have fun over the summer and try Rugby League in a safe, friendly environment maybe for the first time.
