Boys cricket squad hoping for repeat
Redbridge’s young cricketers have booked a return trip to Lord’s after going unbeaten through the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games Indoor Cricket male qualifiers at the weekend.
The borough team, who last won this competition in 2012, were unbeaten in their group matches at the Harrow Leisure Centre on Saturday.
They beat Brent, Kingston and Westminster in an impressive all-round display and can now look forward to the finals alongside seven other boroughs at Lord’s on Sunday March 2.
Team Manager Mahesh Velani was pleased with his side, saying: “It feels really good to be in the finals again. I am delighted for the guys who get a day at Lords.
“We started our training in January so we’ve had about four weeks. We had a few trials beforehand so they’ve known each other because they play for the same clubs.
“A few of them play for the same club and the same county so they’re fairly familiar with each other.
“The London Youth Games is a good event because it brings the community together. They play for different clubs but they don’t play in the same team so it gives them that opportunity to play with different players and players that they do know, and ones they live next to.”
