West Ham are set to beat Fulham and West Brom to the signing of Ipswich Town left-back Aaron Cresswell.

The 24-year-old underwent a medical at the Hammers’ Chadwell Heath training base on Thursday and will become their third signing of the summer.

The Baggies and the Cottagers had also been linked with Cresswell, but West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has moved quickly to bring in the former Tranmere man.

Cresswell, who made 42 Championship appearances for Ipswich last season, will compete with Joey O’Brien and Dan Potts for the Hammers’ left-back spot.

He follows new arrivals Mauro Zarate and Cheikhou Kouyate to Upton Park as West Ham look to build on last season’s 13th-placed finish.
