West Ham have confirmed the signing of midfielder Diego Poyet from Charlton on a four-year deal.

Poyet was out of contract with the Addicks having turned down a new deal at The Valley and he joins the Hammers for an undisclosed compensation fee.

The talented 19-year-old, who is the son of Sunderland manager Gus, has already joined up with the Hammers squad in France for warm weather training.

Poyet opted to make the short trip across the River Thames after being linked with a number of other Premier League clubs, including Sunderland, Chelsea and Manchester City.

The England youth international will hope to break into the first team at Upton Park following the departures of midfielders Jack Collison, Matty Taylor and Joe Cole this summer.

Poyet joins Mauro Zarate, Cheikhou Kouyaté and Aaron Cresswell through the door as Sam Allardyce gets down to business ahead of a huge season for him and the club.
