West Ham Supporters Club have begun their mission to save their historic headquarters in Castle Street.

They will be at their new matchday base in Stour Space, close to the London Stadium for Friday night’s match against Brighton.

And they have also started work on their plans to reopen their HQ after they were forced to close because of health and safety concerns.

Spokesman Paul Christmas said: “We had a four-hour meeting on Tuesday and there it was decided to get a proper Health & Safety Report done this Friday.

“This will include recommendations and quotes about what need to be done which should give us a better idea of what we face.”

There was also some other good news for the Supporters Club as Paul related.

“We have arranged a meeting with Newham Council on Monday to see how they may be able to help us, while we have also been in contact with West Ham United who are offering support and a meeting,” he said.

“David Sullivan knows about it and Karren Brady knows about it, so hopefully we can get something sorted with them.”

The early estimates as to how much money it would take to re-open the club is between £100,000 and £200,000, and the club are in contact with various possible West Ham supporters who could become benefactors.

“We will have a better idea about what it will take to get the place open again after Friday’s report,” said Christmas.

“If we need to put in a new boiler or redo the electrics it may take a little longer, but we are hoping to be open again by Christmas.”

Meanwhile, they are expecting a bumper turnout at on Friday at their Stour Space temporary bar, which is close to Forman’s in Hackney Wick, a short walk from the Stadium.

“We will be open from 4pm and we are expecting it to be banged out,” said Christmas.

“It will be members only, though you can take out membership on the day and we will almost certainly have to be a one-out, one-in system.

“We are all really looking forward to it.”

The club will hold an EGM for all members at noon on November 5 at the Our Lady of Compassion church next door to the club to discuss the way ahead.

If you would like to contribute to the saving of the club, they have set up a GoFundMe page which you can find by going to their website at https://whufcsc.com/save-our-club.
