Two defeats leave the manager downbeat

Redbridge manager Dave Ross was understandably downbeat are watching his side’ two defeats over the Bank Holiday weekend.

A 5-1 defeat at Soham Town on Saturday was compounded by a 2-1 reverse at home to Brentwood on Monday.

“I was disappointed with the way we played at Soham, it looks like it’s going to be a long, hard season,” he said.

“We were a goal down after seven minutes and two down midway through the first half. Patrick Damali pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time and at 2-1 we competed after the break.”

It wasn’t long, however, before the home side extended their lead. “We didn’t take our chances and they did. We got punished and deserved to lose, but I think the 5-1 scoreline flattered them a bit,” said Ross.

Once again silly errors and missed chances cost the Motormen dear on Monday as despite a late consolation from Daniel Charge, Redbridge fell to their fourth league defeat of the season.

“We were on the back foot far too early. We cannot afford to get dragged into a relegation dogfight this early.”

Ross has signed a couple of new players, though, and hopes they will come off.

“I’ve got a couple of new lads in and we’ll need to integrate them into the side,” he said.

“People forget that we’ve started this side from scratch, there’s no finance to be had.

“We need to work hard in training and start to turn things around.”
