Newbury Forest’s erratic form continued on Saturday as they drew 2-2 with Fire United at the Oakside Stadium in their Thurlow Nunn First Division South fixture.

The game was just seven minutes old when Forest’s achilles heal (set pieces) struck as from a United corner Paulo Grigorio rose unchallenged to give the visitors the lead.

Forest were back in the game on eighteen minutes when Reynolds-Blanche was bought down in the area and from the resulting penalty kick he sent the united keeper the wrong way for the equalizer.

Then from another set piece saw De Sousa Dias restore United’s lead with another unchallenged header and sent the visitors in at half-time 2-1 up.

Newbury introduce new signing Ferid Mendavonic at half-time and from then on looked much more solid and they started to put United under pressure.

Although Newbury were having the lions share of the possession they had to wait until the eightieth minute for the equalizer when captain Sean Crossley score with a powerful header.

Forest created three more chances in the closing stages but all were missed and again they had to share the points.

Manager Leo Connolly said “We must stop conceding goals from set pieces.

If we had not let in so many from corners, free-kicks etc we would be six or seven points better off and up in the top half of the table.”

Newbury travel to Braintree Town this Saturday for their next league match.
