Local club to enter FA National Futsal League
Barking FC are preparing for their first ever campaign in the FA National Futsal League Division Two South after they were notified of their successful application for a place following their presentation at Wembley Stadium.
During the last couple of years, Barking have embraced the small-sided format by creating six new male teams from Under 10s to adults, training and playing matches locally. The next step in their progress saw Chairman, Rob O’Brien, display their merits to The FA at the national stadium in April, leading to their recent good news.
Playing as Barking Futsal Club, they’ll be based at the internationally-renowned Barking SportHouse next door to the club’s ground in Mayesbrook Park. The team will be managed by Bobby Kavanagh and, despite only being together for a short time, they have already enjoyed lengthy runs in the FA Futsal Cup’s South-East & London Regional Finals. Barking’s Under 19s also participated in FA National Championship Regional Qualifiers.
A naturally delighted O’Brien commented: “The journey first started after we had a few Futsal training sessions then decided to enter a team or two into the local regional league which is open to everyone.
“In our first season we found it tough, but kept going. The following season we’d improved a lot whilst practicing throughout the year. We beat every team at least once, including the champions who were already in the National League.
“It gave us the idea that we could compete on a national level, so this latest news is fantastic for the club and our young developing Futsal players. It will provide the pathway they need to reach their potential. Our Academy scheme develops 16-19-year-old Futsal players throughout the year on its educational school leaver programme. We are still recruiting for this year, so get in touch!”
