Goalkeeper Dean Brill praised Leyton Orient’s start to the season but feels they must only see it as a start as they moved joint-top of the National League table after a 3-0 victory against Solihull Moors on Tuesday, writes Jacob Ranson.

The O’s sealed a comfortable victory thanks to goals from Charlie Lee, Macauley Bonne and Matt Harrold despite being under immense pressure in the first half at the Breyer Group Stadium.

“It’s a great start, almost a quarter of the way now, which is crazy seeing as we’re only six weeks in,” said Brill.

“It’s a start is all it is, there are tough times ahead, and as we found last season it’s a long old season.”

The 32-year-old admitted they had to battle hard to earn the points despite the scoreline and felt Lee’s goal in first-half stoppage time was vital.

He added: “It was tough, very physical, but it’s another clean sheet and another win.

“The boys had to fight hard, we weren’t great first half, but we battled and then scored right at the end of the half which was a real boost.”

Man of the match Brill feels Orient are starting to impose their style on matches in recent weeks and believes they did that in the second half of Tuesday’s clash.

“We’ve defended really well of late, and now we’ve started to impose our style and calmness on the ball on teams,” he added.

“It was obviously hard first half because of the physicality of the game and I think in this league it’s going to be like that a lot of the time.

“But then in the second half I think we controlled the game really well and took our chances.”

Brill also felt the game didn’t get any easier when Jamie Reckford was sent off in the 55th minute for two yellow cards as it made Tim Flowers’ side more direct.

“They were very direct and when they go down to 10 men, they’re not trying to pass their way round, they’re trying to come to goal direct which in fairness to them was tough to defend,” said Brill.

“They’re very strong and started well, they’ve matched us since the gaffer come in and they’re matching us, so today was a good win against a tough side.”
