Jay Simpson and Darius Henderson found the net as Kevin Nugent picked up his first win as Leyton Orient interim manager at Doncaster Rovers, and kept up their fine unbeaten run away from home.
The O’s were down on numbers going into the game, but they battled away and secured all three points with a goal in each half.
There was further injury woe with Romain Vincelot missing out through a knee injury, while three other changes were made as in came Elliot Omozusi, Marvin Bartley and Chris Dagnall for suspended duo Nathan Clarke and Mathieu Baudry, and Shaun Batt.
And they couldn’t have got off to a best possible start when Jay Simpson pounced on a mistake from Jamie McCombe and the former Arsenal striker slotted home for his fourth goal in as many games.
The O’s defence was certainly a reshuffled one but Scott Cuthbert was on hand to block an effort from the dangerous James Coppinger, while Dagnall shot wide up the other end.
And the visitors had Omozusi to thank for keeping out another Coppinger effort after Nathan Tyson forced a good save from O’s Gary Woods.
Jack Price was handed a great chance to double the visitors lead but sliced an effort wide from a Henderson ball through.
But then came the talking point when a misjudgement from Woods allowed Tyson a shot on goal, and it appeared to be blocked by the hand off Cuthbert, though the referee opted to wave play on.
McAnuff and Harry Forrester were then involved in a scuffle late in the half, with both players booked.
But much like the game against MK Dons on Saturday the second half was much quieter.
Rovers saw Dean Furman shoot straight at former Doncaster goalkeeper Woods before Kyle Bennett jinked his way through several challenges but fired wide.
However the O’s would find the second goal they needed and they did it in some style as Henderson picked up the ball on the edge of the box from a Price corner and superbly curled the effort into the top corner.
Price was later forced to hobble off for the O’s in another injury blow, but the hosts saw Richie Wellens’ effort deflected behind for a corner, while Simpson blasted a late free-kick over.
Coppinger went close in injury time for Rovers, but the O’s had done enough to secure their first win over Rovers in nine attempts and move up to 15th in the League One table.
