Tonight will be the first time Leyton Orient defender Shane Lowry will make a return to former employers Aston Villa, and he hopes it’s a fruitful one as O’s look to cause an upset in the Capital One Cup.

The 25-year-old joined the Premier League side 10 years ago, and progressed through the Academy at Villa Park before moving on to Millwall and subsequently the O’s in the summer.

And while he will always have fond memories of his time with Paul Lambert’s outfit, he would love nothing more than to come out on top against the Villans.

“It’s been the first chance for me to go back there as I didn’t get a chance with Millwall because I was suspended when we got them in the League Cup so I am really looking forward to it,” said Lowry.

“I only have good memories from my time there. I had seven good years progressing through the Academy and I made a couple of first team appearances.

“They give youth players a chance there which is good and the Academy is second to none. I came over as a 15 year old until 22 so they are great memories but hopefully we’ll be able to beat them.”

Lowry has missed the last two games for the O’s, but is hoping to be back in the starting line-up for the League Cup tie tonight as he continues to bed in with the Brisbane Road side after signing a two-year deal in the summer.

“If selected I am looking to do well. It’s always hard coming to a team which was very successful last season,” he added.

“There are already a lot of good players here and it takes a little while to settle in and get up to speed with things but I am enjoying it. Everyone has been really welcoming so I am really looking forward to my two years here.”
