Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade believes Cardiff City have requested permission to speak to him, but is yet to find out the decision of that from club owner Francesco Becchetti.

Slade went from 33/1 yesterday morning to odds on favourite come the evening to take charge of the Bluebirds following their decision to replace Ole Gunnar Solkjaer following a poor start to the Championship season.

And Slade is pleased his work at the O’s has been recognised, but ‘remains in the dark’ as to whether permission has been granted to speak to the Welsh club.

“It is nice to be associated with such a big club like that.,” said Slade.

“It is a huge club but I am very proud they have seen the good work that we have done at the football club.

“I think they may have requested permission to talk to me but I am uncertain and a little in the dark as to the response to that situation at the minute.”

But if Slade doesn’t move on to the Bluebirds, he is confident things will improve between him and Becchetti.

“I am sure if I am to stay at the football club thing will improve, there is no doubt about that,” he added.

“You have to have a game plan going forward you have to work together. That’s all part and parcel of it.”

Slade also insisted he remained happy at Leyton Orient, and would continue to give his best for the club if no move away materialises.

“I have been very happy. I’ve been happy here since April 2010 and I have always given my best for the football club and I expect my players to always give their best whether it’s my first game or my last game.
