Leyton Orient completed the signing of former Liverpool and Sunderland left back Andrea Dossena late last week, and boss Mauro Milanese feels his arrival solves a conundrum the O’s have had all season.

The 33-year-old Italian international signed a deal at Brisbane Road until the end of the season after finding himself without a club following his departure from the Black Cats in the summer.

And manager Milanese feels he is the solution to all their left-back problems, having had Shane Lowry and Elliot Omozusi filling in with Gary Sawyer’s absence.

“I think we have missed Sawyer all season,” said Milanese.

“We have needed to play with Omozusi, who is right footed and Lowry, who in my opinion is a centre back, so I think he can provide a solution for us at the back.”

Dossena certainly has a wealth of experience for the O’s to call on having played in the English top flight for a number of seasons.

And while the Orient boss feels his fellow countryman will improve the defence, he also believes his attacking credentials could stand the O’s in good stead, adding: “He is capable of getting some good whip on the ball from the left and can help push the team forward when we play at home.

“He offers experience and is a proper left back which we have needed.”

The O’s are still waiting for international clearance, but are optimistic the former Napoli man will be available for Saturday’s trip to fellow League One strugglers Gillingham.
