Sky Bet League One: Leyton Orient 0 Bradford City 2

Leyton Orient remain in the bottom four of League One after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Bradford City at Brisbane Road.

James Hanson scored twice in the first half to give the Bantams the initiative and Fabio Liverani’s side weren’t able to find a way back into the match.

However it could have been so different had Romain Vincelot’s early effort, with the match still goalless, found the net and not the underside of the bar.

Liverani made one change to the team that had beaten Chesterfield 3-2 at the weekend, with Marvin Bartley coming in for Josh Wright, who dropped to the bench.

Young keeper Charlie Grainger also took a place among the substitutes as Gary Woods missed out with a slight ankle injury.

Orient made a bright start with Dean Cox testing Jordan Pickford in the Bradford goal inside the opening five minutes and Vincelot nearly put them ahead on the quarter-hour mark.

Elliot Omozusi crossed in and the French midfielder smashed an effort against the underside of the bar before David Mooney’s follow-up effort was blocked by Andrew Davies.

FA Cup quarter-finalists Bradford made O’s pay for failing to convert that opportunity by taking the lead with 21 minutes gone.

Hanson chested down Mark Yeates through ball before smashing a volley past on-loan Burnley keeper Alex Cisak to put the visitors ahead.

The hosts responded, though, and again Vincelot went close after Cox crossed into the box. But his header was comfortably saved by Pickford.

Bradford’s clinical edge again came back to bite O’s though as Hanson scored his second in the 32nd minute to put the away side in control.

A Filipe Morais free kick was met by Hanson and he glanced a header into the bottom corner past Cisak to make it 2-0.

Mooney linked up with Cox shortly afterwards, but the latter’s shot went over the bar and, despite three minutes of stoppage time, Liverani’s team were unable to find a response.

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson made a double change at the interval, with Gary MacKenzie and Francois Zoko coming on for Davies and two-goal man Hanson.

And the visitors nearly added a third early in the second half when Yeates played in Zoko, but Cisak denied him.

Liverani introduced Ryan Hedges and Wright as O’s looked to find a way back into the game, but the changes couldn’t create any significant opportunities for the hosts and the final roll of the dice came when Jobi McAnuff entered the field of play with 18 minutes remaining.

But with 10 minutes left Orient started to create chances and Chris Dagnall came close to reducing the arrears when Wright picked him out in the area. Bradford’s Pickford was able to hold his shot, though.

Hedges was next to call the Bantams keeper into action when he fired from range, but again the Bradford goalie was equal to the effort.

When O’s did manage to get the ball past Pickford they were stopped by Morais as Dagnall had a close range effort cleared off the line in the 84th minute.

Omozusi and Shane Lowry both had efforts off target during the latter stages of the game, but O’s couldn’t find a way through and fell to a 15th league defeat of the campaign.

The 2-0 loss sees them remain 23rd in the table ahead of this weekend’s clash against Oldham Athletic.
