O’s appoint fourth boss in five months.

Leyton Orient have appointed former Lazio and Palermo midfielder Fabio Liverani as manager in place of Mauro Milanese in a two-and-a-half year deal.

The 38-year-old Italian takes over from Milanese, who will now revert to his role as sporting director after an unsuccesful eight games in charge at Brisbane Road, winning just two – a 4-1 success over Crewe Alexandra and a 2-0 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy win against League Two side Northampton Town.

Following his playing career, Liverani had a short spell as Genoa manager in 2013 that lasted seven games, and in that time picked up just one win.

Alongside his arrival, Marcello Donatelli and Maurizio Cantarelli also join the club as assistant manager and fitness coach respectively having both worked with Liverani at Genoa.

What this means for the likes of head coach Kevin Nugent and fitness coach Lee Southernwood remains to be seen.

On being appointed as O’s boss, Liverani told the club website: “I’m excited about this challenge and cannot wait to get started at Leyton Orient. This is a long term project and we will work together to make it a success.”

Liverani met with the O’s players and staff today, and will take full control tomorrow.
