Essex Senior League: Ilford 2 West Essex 0

Ilford secured a first home win in the Essex Senior League since November 22 with a 2-0 success over West Essex at Cricklefield Stadium.

The Foxes had not triumphed in the league on their own turf since beating Woodford Town almost two months ago, having been winless in their last three at home.

After a goalless first half, Allan Fenn and Billy Cove’s men took the lead through James Peagram.

Ilford did not have to wait too long for their second goal, with Tony Cookey doubling the hosts’ advantage.

The Foxes remain ninth with the win, though moved to within a point of West Essex in eighth.

The Cricklefield Stadium club return to action on Saturday when the host Great Wakering Rovers.

And joint-managers Fenn and Cove will hope they do not have to enjoy a similarly long wait for another home success as they look to continue climbing the table.
