Ryman One North:

Ilford 3 Cheshunt 3

Ilford boss Kevin Lucas admitted he felt “sick” after seeing two crucial points snatched away in the sixth minute of stoppage time against Cheshunt on Wednesday evening.

The Foxes had recovered from 1-0 and 2-1 down to lead 3-2 thanks to two goals from George Lutaaya and one by Harry Sintim.

But with only seconds remaining, David Greene salvaged a draw for the visitors and Ilford were left feeling heartbroken.

“I feel sick,” said Lucas. “Cheshunt scored 30 seconds from the end following a corner that shouldn’t have been given.

“They threw everybody into the box and managed to scramble the ball over the line. It was heartbreaking.

“Do I want to blame the referee for playing six extra minutes? Of course I do and that’s natural for a manager in my position.

“I’m bound to complain about the extra time, but was it the right amount? Quite possibly.”

Corey Whitely fired Cheshunt ahead on seven minutes before Lutaaya replied five minutes later after visiting keeper Obey Murufu failed to collect his tame effort.

Leon Archer restored Cheshunt’s lead only for Sintim to make it 2-2 on 26 minutes.

Lataaya then grabbed his second as Ilford scored three at home for the first time since a 3-2 win against the same opposition nearly a year ago.

Foxes substitute Warren Mfula missed two good chances to seal victory and the hosts paid the price when Greene pounced at the death.

Ilford moved off the bottom of the Ryman One North table, but it was the two points that went begging that annoyed their manager.

Lucas added: “If we’d have gone 4-2 ahead the game was won.

“We’ve also been forced to use four different goalkeepers in our last four games due to injury and unavailability – and that causes uncertainty.”
