Things can only improve for the Foxes

Ilford’s interest in the Gordaon Brasted Memorial Trophy was ended last night (Tuesday) with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Haringey Borough at Coles Park.

Manager Allan Fenn was philosophical though: “It’s been a tough week for us,” he said, we’ve had three games in six days and that takes its toll both physically and mentally.

“On top of that we’ve had two training sessions and for a new side like us we also have a few fitness problems.”

Ross made a few changes in is selection after Ilford bowed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle on Sunday, with a 2-1 home defeat by Eastern Counties League side Saffron Walden Town.

“I rested three players for last night’s game,” he said, “and changed the shape a bit too, but Haringey are a good side with a good manager, who I know well.”

But it wsn’t all negatives for the manager. “I could see a lot of positives in the game, though, and we can only get better.

“I’ve got six players coming down for training, including Eden Nelson who was our top scorer last season.

“To be fair we’ve not been outclassed so far this season. We’ve come a long way in a short time and we can only get stronger as time goes on.”
