Ilford on the A127 for latest league challenge

Ilford manager Allan Fenn takes his side to Basildon tonight (Wednesday) on the back of Saturday’s opening league win over Waltham Forest at Cricklefield.

“Tonight will be difficult,” said Fenn, “Basildon lost 1-0 at home to Barking on Saturday but, from what I hear, they were a bit unlucky.

“I’ll be looking for a good response from my players and for them to to step up to the challenge.”

Referring to Saturday’s opener, the manager thought his boys started a bit warily. “It was our first game and I thought we were a bit nervous.

“We went a goal down but a Michael Osei strike just before half time levelled things and gave us confidence.

“We came out all guns blazing in the second half and Chris Stevens and Chris Lockwood got the goals to put us on our way, although with them scoring a second late on, it was a nervous last five minutes.”

Fenn thinks his side can do better, though, saying: “We could have had five, six or seven. We ned to put our chnaces away.”
