Side boss believes victory never looked in doubt despite goalless first half

Barkingside manager Gursel Gulfer believes his team were in full control during their 3-1 win at home to Eton Manor in the Essex Senior League.

The teams were locked level at half time, but Side opened the scoring three minutes into the second half through Luke With.

Though Manor drew level through Josh Sykes, the Cricklefield club went on to triumph thanks to goals from Jakub Berkowicz and Kai Heather.

Victory lifted side up to 10th in the standings, and Gulfer was pleased to see his team maintain their upward trajectory.

“There was only one team in it on Saturday and we seem to be a different team at the minute,” said Gulfer.

“We weathered the storm literally in the first half with the wind behind Eton Manor, but we felt confident at half time.

“We knew if we just stepped our work rate up a little, we’d win and even though they got a good goal to draw level, we were still in control.”

The win means Barkingside are now unbeaten in their last seven league games, a run of form which has seen them return to the top half of the table.

Though Side would have wanted promotion following relegation from the Rymam North last season, they are ending the season in good form.

And Gulfer believes that if they can maintain their run until the end of the current campaign, it will set them up brilliantly for next season.

“If we can keep hold of this squad, then these wins are definitely important for next season,” he added.

“We had a bit of a sticky middle part of the season, but we’ve freshened it up and things are looking good now.

“We’re in really good form at the minute and with four home games to come, I’m expecting four more wins.”
