Barkingside are now winless in four matches after suffering a 2-0 defeat to high-flyers Basildon United.

Goals from Marcus Bowers and Tommy Barton saw The Bees take all three points at Cricklefield Stadium and put them just five points behind league leaders FC Romania.

Bowers, who came on as a substitute for the injured Charlie Kendall only three minutes before half-time, headed home a Joe Skeels free kick a minute before the break to open the scoring.

The Bees added to their tally with four minutes left in the match when Barton headed home to maintain their fourth spot in the table.

Defeat for the hosts sees them in 15th, just three points above the bottom four.

Neighbours Ilford put in a solid performance to see off Southend Manor 3-0 at Southchurch Park, maintaining their seventh position in the table.

For Manor it was a poor day at the office, and they remain in 12th spot, only seven points above the bottom four.

There was some positive news for the club though as Ellis Skidmore, who suffered that terrible injury against Hackney Wick last week, has undergone surgery and is now starting his recovery.

Barkingside: Karrer, Forrest, Hunwicks, Bottone, Laurent, Ikpo, Lemba, Kelly, Newell, Aiken, Santos.

Subs: Briggs, Mendy, Taylor-Reid, Silva, Thompson.

Basildon United: Wheatley, Selby Knight, Conway, Skeels, Cumming, Phillips, Hassan, Barton, Peagram, Spooner, Kendall.

Subs: Bowers, Adlington, Whitby.
