Dagenham & Redbridge host Leyton Orient in the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tonight, but who could possibly forget the last time these two faced each other in a competitive game.

Back in September 2011 they did battle in this same competition and it produced a record-breaking penalty shoot out, which Liverpool and Middlesbrough equalled only a few weeks ago in the Capital One Cup.

But there’s been plenty of changes on both teams in terms of personnel since that day with only three O’s players still at the club – Elliot Omozusi, Dean Cox and David Mooney – though substitute George Porter could line up against the O’s tonight.

For the Daggers there is only Scott Doe, Billy Bingham and Abu Ogogo still at Victoria Road from that matchday squad.

Here is our match report from that memorable game:

Leyton Orient 1 Daggers 1 - Daggers win 14-13 on penalties

James Shea was Daggers’ hero in an incredible penalty shoot-out to send his side through to round two of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at the expense of local rivals Orient.

After a 1-1 draw in normal time, Orient captain Ben Chorley stepped up to take the 28th penalty of an astonishing shoot-out which Shea palmed away to win the tie.

Peter Gain gave the home side an early scare, when his low drive from the edge of the box came back off the post on five minutes.

Jonathan Tehoue missed a golden opportunity to head the home side in front midway through the half, but his free header was poorly placed straight at Daggers stopper James Shea.

Shea was in the thick of the action again just before the break, rushing from his goal to clear a long ball forward, but in his haste caught the shin of striker David Mooney and the home fans called for a red card.

Referee Simon Hooper thought otherwise though, booking the on-loan Arsenal stopper to the fury of the home crowd and boss Russell Slade.

A lacklustre cup tie burst into life on 64 minutes when Damian Scannell’s inch-perfect cross fell for Williams to poke past keeper Lee Butcher and edge the visitors in front.

O’s striker Tehoue missed the home side’s best chance, just as he had in the opening 45 minutes. The Frenchman took advantage of a slip from Scott Doe and burst into the box, but blazed over.

But, just as Orient’s trophy hopes appeared to be over, substitute George Porter crossed low for the unmarked David Mooney to slot in at the far post and send the tie to penalties.

With the first 27 impeccably scored, Chorley was the villain and Shea the hero to send Daggers through.

Leyton Orient: Butcher, Omozusi (Odubajo 64), Chorley, Forbes, Daniels, Cox, Dawson (McSweeney 46), Laird, Smith, Mooney, Tehoue (Porter 74).

Unused substitutes: Lovelock, Lobjoit.

Dagenham & Redbridge: Shea, Ilesanmi, Doe, Walsh, Ogogo (Rose 46), Scannell, Gain, Bingham, Lee, Williams, Tomlin (Green 46).

Unused substitutes: Lewington, Reed, Woodall.
