Manager John Still made just one change for the clash bringing in captain Scott Doe to replace Luke Howell who drops to the bench.

The hosts got off to a strong start and in the first minute recent signing Tom Bolarinwa tried his luck from long range but couldn’t hit the target.

Daggers hit back in the fourth minute with a chance of their own as keeper Mark Cousins throw released Morgan Ferrier down the flank but Simon Downer managed to block the attacker off.

Three minutes later winger Kieron Cadogan picked out midfielder Harry Beautyman inside the box after a good run but his shot was blocked and cleared for a corner.

Cadogan made another run in the 14th minute this time picking out Craig Eastmond, who was free at the back post, but the former Arsenal midfielder fired it over the bar.

Dagenham continued to soak up the pressure and were fortunate not to concede in the early stages as Sutton’s Lois John was the next one to go close as he hit the woodwork in the 16th minute with Cousins just managing to get his finger to it.

Finally after 24 minutes John Still’s men finally got themselves into the match as Kevin Lokko got the end of a free-kick and forced Jamie Collins to clear it off the line before Fejiri Okenabirhie then smashed the rebound into the hands of Owen Evans.

The visitors’ pressure didn’t last long as Sutton broke back the other way, with Boucaud having to bring down Eastmond to stop the charge, with the free-kick resulting in another chance with Louis John heading just wide of the post.

Terrell Thomas then fired a shot on target in the 34th minute, but it was deflected over for a corner, Beautyman stepped up and picked out Collins who put in a good effort only to be denied by a diving save from Mark Cousins.

Beautyman then picked out Collins once again with a corner but the defender’s header was blocked.

Daggers went into the half-time break 0-0 despite the hosts’ dominance.

The second-half got underway and it was the visitors who got the first chance as they hit Sutton on the counter attack and Cheek went through one-on-one with the keeper but fired a low shot straight at Evans in the 49th minute.

Sutton resumed their dominance right after and a dangerous ball into the box found Beautyman at the back post who rose above Sam Ling and headed just wide.

Captain Scott Doe then had to bail his side out as Beautyman headed another chance at goal as he cleared it off the line in the 56th minute.

The U’s pressure was rewarded as Tommy Wright broke the deadlock in the 57th minute as he took advantage of a back pass and took it around keeper Mark Cousins before slotting it home.

Five minutes later Paul Doswell’s men had doubled their lead as Beautyman whipped in a corner and Bolarinwa headed it into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Okenabirhie clawed Dagenham back into the match as he tapped a shot home in the 84th minute after substitute Luke Howell headed the ball into his path.
