Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett has now turned his attentions to addressing the forward line at the club.

Over the past week the Daggers have completed deals for goalkeeper Mark Cousins, defenders Nathan Green and Damian Batt, followed by the announcement yesterday of midfielder Frankie Raymond.

And now with the back line and midfield sorted, Burnett has a number of forward and wide man targets in mind as his side begin their pre-season fixtures with a trip to Conference South side Bromley, now the home of former Daggers Damian Scannell and Louis Dennis.

The Victoria Road boss will run the rule over several trialists in the fixture, but admits he’s in no rush to complete any deals.

“There will be a number of trialists at Bromley at the weekend, probably four or five,” said Burnett. “I’ve said it before, but now the main focus is to strengthen up front and in the wide areas.

“Bromley will be a good test for our players and it will be a nice run out. I don’t really care about the
result in pre-season games, that’s the last issue really. You need to take a look at players and it is more about the performances.

“There’s no great rush in my opinion to bring the players in, I have got no concerns if it isn’t until the end of July that we can bring them in.”

All of the current squad, apart from Rhys Murphy, are now back in full pre-season training, having initially returned for fitness tests at the end of last week.

Murphy will continue his rehabilitation after surgery on both hips, and though the Victoria Road chief is pleased with his progress, he still feels it will be touch and go as to whether he makes a return for the season opener on August 9 at home to Morecambe.

“It’s going as well as it can with Rhys and it will still be touch and go whether he’ll be back for the start. It will be tight,” he added.
