Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett is to ‘make a decision’ on striker Jamie Cureton.

The 38-year-old is a free agent after being released by Cheltenham Town at the end of last season, and has played in several pre-season games for the Daggers.

But a deal for Cureton back at the Robins was reportedly close at the beginning of the week, however, the chance of a contract for the experienced frontman at Whaddon Road appears to be very slim.

Burnett is aware of interest in the striker who has scored over 250 goals in his Football League career, but admits the time has come to make a decision on Cureton, whose family are based in Harlow.

“We have spoken. Cureton is still having a wonderful career,” said Burnett.

“He’s 38 but his movement is excellent and you can see why he has played at the very top level. We have been very open with each other.

“He has made it quite clear that he has had a couple of offers and I have said give me a week or so and let’s have a look at you in a couple of games and we’ll make a decision on him. Financially whether we can make it happen I am not sure.”

Cureton spoke to the Gloucestershire Echo after appearing for the Daggers in their 4-0 defeat at Ebbsfleet, which did report he was only training with the club.

“I only went to Dagenham to keep fit . It’s 20 minutes down the road from where I live, so it made life easier and it wasn’t a trial as such,” Cureton said.
