Daggers boss Burnett looking for settled squad before Spain trip

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett hopes to have most of his squad finalised before the pre-season trip to Spain in mid-July so they can fully reap the rewards of the excursion.

The Victoria Road side will head off between games against Maidstone (July 8) and Wealdstone (July 15) for a four-day trip to Torrevieja, a place just outside Alicante, where they will also potentially face a professional Spanish side in a friendly.

And with that in mind, the Daggers chief hopes to have the bulk of his summer signings already in place so they can maximise the time together.

“It is something different, but we have managed to raise some funds to go away and I feel it will be excellent for the boys to go away and bond,” said Burnett.

“It’s going to be another small squad, but hopefully going away will help create a good team environment.”

“Hopefully the majority of the team will be in place by the time we go on the trip but we are in no rush as they are plenty of players about and some will think they can get Championship clubs and not end up there and in that respect we could get more value for our money.”
