Forward received praise from Daggers boss Peter Taylor after netting in defeat to Maidstone United

Dagenham & Redbridge attacker Elliott Romain will hope to get among the goals again at home to Maidenhead United in the Vanarama National League on Saturday after opening his account for the season in midweek.

Romain netted the only goal for Daggers in a 2-1 defeat at home to Maidstone United on Tuesday night.

The goal capped a strong display from the 26-year-old, who was also named man of the match.

And Daggers boss Peter declared himself pleased with how the former Eastbourne Borough man fared against Stones.

“I thought Elliott was our best forward against Maidstone, without a doubt,” he said.

“It was nice for him to score; it was a good goal and a great cross from Liam Gordon.

“The pleasing thing for me was the crowd really enjoyed the fight the boys put in; they appreciated that and I appreciated that.”

The defeat against Stones also saw Alex Davey make his debut for Daggers, starting in place of the suspended Ben Goodliffe.

Davey endured a pre-season campaign hampered by a slight knee injury and is still returning to full fitness.

Taylor admits he was surprised the 23-year-old lasted the distance against Stones, but revealed it was out of necessity more than anything else.

“Alex did well to play 90 minutes because he missed a lot of pre-season training,” he added.

“I never would have dreamt he would have played against Maidstone; it would have been Ben had he been available.”
