Dagenham & Redbridge Community Trust are running a female football showcase as they look to recruit new players ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The Ttrust ran three female teams last season in the Essex County Girls’ and Women’s Leagues, including at under-12 and under-14 levels as well as adult sides.

And they have since been given a massive funding boost from the National League Trust that means they will now run six teams next season, including under-10s, under-11s, under-12s, under-13s, under-15s and adults.

To fill these teams the Trust is running trials at Goals Dagenham every night next week from 5pm to 7pm.

Denis Lawrence, Community Trust Manager and Designated Safeguarding Officer, said: “The Showcase Week is an opportunity for any players, old or young, to turn up and try out, join in, or trial for one of next season’s teams.”

The Trust is also running a World Cup Festival for schools this week with games being played on Monday, Tuesday, today (Wednesday) and Friday.

The teams are five-a-side, with a maximum of eight players in each squad, and each team must field either three girls, or three boys, at any one time.

There is no overall winner as it will be a fun festival, with each player receiving a medal and complimentary tickets for a Daggers home fixture next season.

The Trust already operates a number of free or cheap activities at Goals during the week as well, including Wildcat Kicks (for five to 12 year olds) on Tuesdays from 5pm to 6pm, Mini Kicks (for eight to 12s) on Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm, Girls Only Kicks (12 to 19) on Fridays from 5pm to 7pm and Open Kicks on Thursday and Fridays from 5.30pm to 7pm.

In recent weeks the Trust has operated a Turn up and Play session at Padnall Court in Marks Gate for local children, boys and girls, aged from five to 18 years old. The two-hour sessions are run by an FA qualified coach from 2pm to 4pm, every other Sunday afternoon.

Last Sunday the players finished the session with free food and drink provided by the local church.

The next session is on this Sunday, June 24.
