Daggers have new owners, but boss says survival still remains the target

Dagenham & Redbridge manager Peter Taylor says expectations for the season remain the same, despite the Essex club having new owners.

American consortium Victoria Road Football, LLC, led by Peter B. Freund, Craig Unger and ex-Premier League goalkeeper Tim Howard, completed their purchase of a majority shareholding in Daggers late last week.

The move should put an end to the financial turmoil that has dogged the Essex club in recent months, and could also give Taylor an increased budget to work with.

Before the new owners came in, it had been stated that Daggers’ aim this season was simply to avoid relegation.

And Taylor revealed that remains the case, even with the boost of investment from the consortium.

“Expectations have not changed at the minute. It’s still about getting three points in each game,” said the 65-year-old.

“Nothing has changed just because you have new owners. You don’t get 10 points for a win, that’s for certain. Nothing’s changed and this game hasn’t changed for a long time.”

Daggers visit Eastleigh in the Vanarama National League on Saturday in search of a fifth straight game without defeat.

That run looked in danger at home to Chesterfield last weekend, before Chike Kandi struck 11 minutes from time to help the Essex club to a 1-1 draw at home to the Spireites.

That result lifted Daggers out of the relegation zone, though only goal difference is keeping them above Havant & Waterlooville.

And Taylor knows it is important his side continue their unbeaten run for as long as possible as they look to edge their way up the table.

“Sometimes the players go overboard thinking they have to get three points in every game, but draws at times can be magnificent,” he added.

“You might look back in a month’s time and say what a big point it was against Chesterfield.

“The workrate and commitment has never been in question, the boys keep giving everything they’ve got in every game.

“We’re learning with every game and improving with every game.”

Daggers’ trip to Eastleigh will see the team play in front of the BT Sport cameras for the first time this term.

That has seen kick-off at the Silverlake Stadium brought forward to 12.35pm.
