Daggers make the trip to Meadow Park on Saturday having lost their last five in the league

Dagenham & Redbridge will hope Saturday’s trip to Boreham Wood in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round provides welcome respite from a disastrous run of form in the Vanarama National League.

After going unbeaten in their first four games of September, Daggers have lost each of their last five in the league and are five points adrift of safety.

While they may face a divisional rival in Wood this weekend, the Essex club will hope the fact they are not playing for points eases the pressure a touch and allows them to play a little more freely.

And midfielder Liam Bellamy hopes that rings true as Peter Taylor’s men look to pocket £25,000 in prize money, as well as a place in the first round proper, by winning the tie.

Speaking after last weekend’s 2-1 loss at home to Wrexham in the league, the 27-year-old said: “You want to win every game regardless of anything.

“Hopefully we can go into the Boreham Wood game having worked hard on the training ground and go from there.”

Daggers have already made the trip to Wood once this season, losing 1-0 on the opening day of the league season.

Despite the end result, the two sides were fairly evenly matched at Meadow Park which should offer some hope that, with a few tweaks, the Essex club may triumph this Saturday.

And though Bellamy was not signed to the Essex club at the time, he knows that game should offer reasons for optimism, even if Taylor’s men did lose their previous meeting with Wood.

“It will be a hard game at Boreham Wood, so we just need to work hard in training, prepare for each game as it comes and go from there,” added the midfielder, who reached the third round of the FA Cup with Dover Athletic in the 2014/15 season.

Should Daggers avoid defeat at Wood, then all eyes will be on the first round draw which will take place on Monday evening.
