New Dagenham & Redbridge signing Angelo Balanta is hoping he can help his new side start climbing up the table.

The 28-year-old Colombian, who operates as either an attacker or an attacking midfielder, joined the club for an undisclosed fee from National League rivals Boreham Wood earlier this week.

The former Queens Park Rangers is now keen to get started and help the team start moving in the right direction.

“I’m delighted to get it over the line, obviously I’ve known about it for a few days, but to get it over the line and done I’m happy,” Balanta said.

“I’ve played for a long time now, so hopefully I can guide the youngsters along the way in the right direction to help the team get back to where it should be.

“As you know we’ve only got 9 points out of 16 games, which is not good, so that’s why I’m here to help improve that.

“Hopefully with a few more signings if possible we can be fighting at the right end of the table.”

Balanta revealed Daggers captain Ben Nunn played a part in bringing him to the club after a few conversations.

“I’ve known Nunny since Boreham Wood, we always kept in touch, he told me how massive the club is, the fan base, and where they’re looking to go in the next year or two years and I wanted to be a part of that.”

He also admitted that he was keen to work alongside manager Peter Taylor again after playing under him at Wycombe Wanderers in 2008.

“To work with Peter Taylor again, I worked with him when I was 17, and he sort of sold me the club.

“There was a chance for me to work with him again and that was a big part of it.”

The new recruit played against the Daggers in their 2-2 draw with Boreham Wood on the weekend before watching from the sidelines in their 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup replay on Tuesday evening.

“It was a bit confusing like I said, it was a potential move, which evolved on Monday more but like I said I didn’t know what was going on in all fairness.

“I was contracted to Boreham Wood and had to do a job, go out and play, and perform.”

Daggers welcome fourth-place Harrogate Town to Victoria Road on Saturday and Balanta can’t wait to get started at his new club.

“I’m raring to go, I missed four games for Boreham Wood due to injury, I played on Saturday and prior to that I had been playing so I can’t wait for Saturday now.”
