Dagenham & Redbridge manager John Still was pleased with his side’s character as they fought back from 2-0 down to seal a 3-2 victory against National League strugglers Guiseley.

Daggers fell two behind in the first 23 minutes of the match but managed to claw it back thanks to goals from Morgan Ferrier and captain Scott Doe before Luke Howell netted the winner in the 80th minute at Victoria Road.

“I actually thought we played well in the first-half, nothing about the own goal it’s football, so there’s nothing I can do about that,” Still said.

“They hit us straight away from a poor clearance, then we come in at half-time 2-2 and I said I thought we played well.

“The second-half we upped the tempo and it was just one-way traffic, but it was great character, good ability, but the most important thing was at 2-0 down our heads didn’t drop we kept going.”

The manager believes he was never in any doubt about his side picking up the three points especially after clawing it back to 2-2 just before the half-time break.

“As I said at half-time you’ve played ok, clearances weren’t good enough, we were giving the ball back in bad areas that culminated in them getting opportunities to score, but we played ok and I said if we keep the intensity going we’ll make chances and I think in the second-half we had three or four good chances and won it in the end, deservedly so.”

Still men’s had only won one game in their last eight going into the match and had been struggling to find the net but that never phased the boss.

“I know we haven’t scored much lately, but I believe the way that we play we will always score,” he said.

“We’re getting Michael Cheek fitter and fitter, the combination of him and Morgan (Ferrier) is so good, but we need to get him fitter and I think once we do that we’ll be ok.

“Corey (Whitely) has not been at his best, Fejiri (Okenabirhie) has not been at his best-form, but form comes and goes and we’re looking forward to being in and around for second-half of the season and their form will come back.”
