Daggers struggled to get going in first half, but performed much better after interval to thrash Blues

John Still was delighted with the response from his Dagenham & Redbridge players as they hit four second-half goals at Chester to triumph away from home for just the second time this term in the National League.

After a fairly poor first half from the Essex club, the visitors stepped up a gear after the break in Cheshire.

Sam Ling opened the scoring, with Luke Howell also on target, before Michael Cheek rounding out the scoring with a brace against the Blues in a 4-0 rout for the Victoria Road side.

In the end, it was a comfortable win for Daggers, and Still was pleased with the improvements in the second half after what was at times a woeful opening period from his charges.

“It was more difficult in the first half, but we said at half time that our wide people had to get up the pitch and open the game up a little bit,” the 67-year-old told BT Sport.

“We didn’t do that as well as we can do and as well as we have done in the first half.

“In the second half, we did, and the longer the game went on, it started to stretch and when a game stretches, the people who are good with the ball for us, the likes of (Andre) Boucaud and (Morgan) Ferrier, were making things happen.

“The performance was good, but the quality of the finishes was good as well.”
