Dagenham & Redbridge assistant manager Darren Currie believes a weekend off competitive action will give the Essex club a chance to get several players back to full fitness in time for the National League trip to Tranmere Rovers on November 11.

Having been knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth qualifying round by Leyton Orient last month, Daggers are without a game this Saturday.

It means the Victoria Road outfit will have been without a competitive game for two weeks prior to the trip to Prenton Park, having drawn 1-1 at Maidenhead United on Saturday.

While Currie revealed some players will be given time to rest over the next few days, others, including the likes of Matt Robinson and Ben Nunn, will be working hard having spent the past few games on the bench.

Daggers will also use the break to get the fit-again Dan Sparkes ready for matches, and the assistant manager confirmed that the Essex outfit have been working hard to organise friendlies to keep the squad ticking over during the gap between games.

“There’ll be some rest for players who have played the majority of the games. For example, the team that played at Maidenhead were rested from training on Monday,” Currie told the club website.

“We’ll get some work into the other players who need that extra bit of work. We have a friendly fixture at the weekend against Crystal Palace which will also give those players more game time.

“We’re also looking at getting another friendly in on either Monday or Tuesday next week.

“We’re hoping come the Tranmere game that all those players will have had at least two 90 minutes under their belts, which will give us a bigger pool of players to pick from for that game.”

Though it remains some way off, Daggers will hope that trip to Tranmere later this month yields just a second away win of the season.

After winning on their first away game of the term at Boreham Wood back in August, Daggers have on their last nine travels in all competitions — a run which has hampered their promotion hopes this season.
