Dagenham & Redbridge battle their way back to beat Guiseley

Dagenham & Redbridge fight back and break their recent run of form with a 3-2 victory against National League strugglers Guiseley.

Daggers fell two behind in the first 23 minutes of the match but managed to claw it back thanks to goals from Morgan Ferrier and captain Scott Doe before Luke Howell netted the winner in the 80th minute at Victoria Road

The first chance of the match fell to the club top goalscorer Corey Whitely who fired straight at keeper Jonathan Maxted after Michael Cheek turned a Guiseley defender and teed him up on the right in the 12th minute.

A scrappy minute of play from Daggers ended up paying off for Guiseley as midfielder Lee Molyneux drove a shot from the left that somehow found the back of the net after taking a deflection to make it 1-0 after 18 minutes.

Five minutes later the visitors Mike Fondop-Talom gave his side a two goal advantage as he tapped home a rebound from close range after Kevan Hurst headed the ball across the goal for the striker.

Daggers clawed one back in the 29th minute thanks to Morgan Ferrier who fired a shot into the top left corner after Whitely picked out Sam Ling on the overlap who slotted it into the box for the forward to make it 1-2.

The goal scorer Ferrier is soon found in the box, where he nutmegged a player, but is unable to get a shot off.

The hosts continued to pile the pressure on as Whitely whipped in a corner that found Ling at the back post but he sent his header wide of the goal in the 34th minute.

A minute later right-back Ling broke down the right and crossed a ball into the box that just missed the crowd of players and fell to Howells who fired straight at Guiseley defender Jean-Yves Koue Niate.

The ball then bounced out to Ferrier who curled a shot just over the bar from outside the box.

Dagenham captain Scott Doe put his side back on level terms in the third minute of added time as he tapped home a low corner from Whitely to make it 2-2 at the half-time break.

Ferrier put a shot just wide of the right post after Cheek held the ball up for his partner from Robson cross in the 49th minute.

Daggers continued to mount the pressure on as Whitely spreads the ball wide to Luke Howell who fired shot straight at the keeper in the 53th minute.

A minute later Whitely picked out Cheek with a free-kick but the striker’s header went into the arms of Maxted.

Ling then run down the right flank and cut into the box and tried threading it across the box but Guiseley’s backline managed to block it.

The hosts went close as a Whitely corner had to be tipped over the bar before getting back-to-back corners but nothing came from them.

Defender Craig Robson was next to go close as he headed the ball just inches over the bar in the 67th minute.

It was Howell who picked out Cheek in the 73rd minute with a cross, the striker then tried pulling off a Paolo Di Canio like striker but failed to connect with the ball.

With ten minutes left in the match Ferrier is played through into the box and squared the ball for Whitely, whose shot is rebounded onto the path of Howell who finished it to give the Daggers a 3-2 lead.
