Goals from Tomi Adeloye and Harry Phipps saw Essex club triumph at Whites

Peter Taylor says he has been given plenty of encouragement by Dagenham & Redbridge’s 2-0 victory at Dover Athletic in the Vanarama National League.

Daggers clambered out of the relegation zone with the triumph on Tuesday after first-half goals from Tomi Adeloye and Harry Phipps fired them to success in Kent.

The Essex club also collected a first league clean sheet since September 8, and boss Taylor was satisfied with the success at his former employers.

“It was a very important win because we were both down there at the bottom of the table,” the 65-year-old told the club website.

“Our first-half display was very good and it could have been different in the second half had Dover got a goal. They came back with a lot of spirit and created a couple of chances.

“I’m delighted to win again and especially with a couple of really good goals, including one from a set-piece, and a clean sheet as well, which was encouraging.”

Adeloye opened the scoring for Daggers in the 11th minute, with the goal stemming from a long punt forward by keeper Elliot Justham.

The forward flicked the ball on to Angelo Balanta, who slipped it back to Adeloye for the striker to curl home from the edge of the area.

And Taylor feels the goal showed there are signs a good partnership could blossom between Adeloye and Balanta in the coming weeks.

“The first goal showed a good combination between Tomi and Angelo,” added the one-time England caretaker manager.

“Tomi wins the first header and it goes to Angelo, who plays him back in. It was a brilliant finish as Tomi still had a lot to do.”

Daggers came under mounting pressure to hold on to their advantage in the second half as Dover through everything at it.

The Essex club, however, held firm and Taylor pointed to that being down to what the players had learned from Saturday’s 2-1 win at home to Harrogate Town, in which Alex McQueen scored a brace.

“The boys learned a lot from Saturday, going in at 2-0 up for the first time,” he said.

“We spoke a lot about that in training on Monday, about managing a game in the second half when you’re winning. The players did that very well in the second half.”
