Boss Wayne Burnett hopes new striker Christian Doidge can make the Daggers a force to be reckoned with up front.
The 21-year-old has joined on a two-year deal from Welsh Premier League side Carmarthen Town, subject to international clearance.
And despite looking good in front of goal against Championship side Brentford in the penalty shoot-out loss, boss Burnett was delighted to finally bring the striker in after talks initially broke down last week.
“He’s something a little different to what we have got and I am sure he can make a big contribution for us,” said Burnett.
“He’s not the tallest but he is great in the air. He has shown in friendlies what he is capable of, but hopefully he can build on that and be a good signing.”
Doidge turned down a move much nearer to Wales in the shape of Conference Premier side Bristol Rovers to fulfil his Football League dream.
And though London is a long way from home for the former Southampton youngster, Burnett hopes his hunger and desire to make it in the professional game will help him settle at Victoria Road.
“He has got a lot of potential and we have only seen a glimpse of what he is capable of,” he added.
“Whether it takes him time to settle you will have to ask him that and though he it’s all new for him the time comes when a football player knows he has got to make sacrifices if he wants to play at the highest level.
“Christian is ambitious, and has the hunger and desire to succeed and is still only young. There is a lot of potential there and we hope he can bring the best out of him with the Daggers.”
As Burnett mentioned, Doidge is something completely different to what the club already have up front.
And with Daggers predominantly playing a 4-3-3 formation, the Victoria Road chief feels comfortable that Doidge can play in the current system.
“He could play in that number nine role up top in the 4-3-3, while he could do the right sided role.
“But if we do play other systems like a 4-4-1-1 he can play that role up top as well. There’s a lot for him to learn about us and us to learn about him still.”
