Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett believes anything like last season’s ninth-place finish in League Two will be another fantastic achievement for the club as they get the new campaign underway at home to Morecambe tomorrow.

The Daggers were the surprise act in the division last term after being bookies favourites for relegation with Accrington Stanley, and while he would love nothing more than for the group to progress even further and make the play-offs, Burnett knows just how difficult the league will be this season.

“From outside the group there is a bit more expectation on us,” said Burnett.

“We are all realistic, though, and we know it is going to be very tough like it is every year, but as I said last season we might surprise a few and hopefully we can do that again.

“I am not going to put targets on what I think we can and should do, but we had an unbelievable season last year to finish ninth and if we can get anywhere near that I’ll be delighted.”
