Friendly: Redbridge 2 Hornchurch 0
A goal in each half allowed Redbridge to defeat an experimental Hornchurch side in both club’s final pre-season friendly of the season at Oakside last night.
The visitors fielded a team of reserves, youth teamers and trialists ahead of the new Ryman Premier Division campaign, including Mali international Ben Abdulaye Traore, while Motormen made it six wins out of seven in their warm-up fixtures ahead of the new Division One North season.
And the home side took the lead just past the half-hour mark when a poor backpass led to a miskick by young keeper Callum Chafer, allowing Brad Hooper an easy chance to score.
Hornchurch’s George Whitelock had seen an effort ruled out for offside, while Aaron Beckles and Jamie Hursit also went close.
Hursit and Elyon Marshall-Katung had signed forms for the 2014/15 season ahead of the match after impressing during pre-season.
But Urchins had to make two injury-enforced changes for the second half as former West Ham youngster and Antigua & Barbuda international Moses Ashikodi and Beckles limped off.
And they could not force their way back into the match after the restart, before conceding a second goal two minutes from time when another slip let in Bostry Bansende for a tap-in.
Redbridge begin the new league season with a home match against Harlow on Saturday, while Hornchurch visit East Thurrock for the first of seven successive away fixtures as they wait for building work at Bridge Avenue to be completed.
