Essex Open 62 New Cambell 43
Essex Open eased past New Cambell to confirm the runners-up spot in the Regional League having already ensured a place in the Premiership play-offs at Nottingham in May.
The two sides matched each other goal for goal in the early stages, but Essex had the edge in mid-court where Sarah Campbell, Sarah Biss and Isabella Morgan-Smith dominated possession.
Maddie Oshodi was in excellent shooting form and well supported by Leah Humphries, who was returning from injury, as Essex netted six unanswered goals late in the first quarter to take a 15-8 lead into the break.
Three quick goals at the start of the second quarter kept Essex in the ascendancy and, although Cambell fought back hard, Michelle Stewart was in outstanding form in defence once again.
Jasmine Odeogberin had an impressive game at goal defence in place of missing captain Zoie Humphries as Essex led 29-21 at half-time.
Rebecca Wilks and Leanne Spencer came into the action in the second half and Essex scored three quick goals, with Oshodi and Humphries continuing to find the net at regular intervals.
Cambell could not find any way back as the gap grew to 13 at 47-34, with Essex maintaining their momentum in the final quarter, which they took 15-9 for an emphatic victory.
Essex Open: Stewart, Odeogberin, Campbell, Biss, I Morgan-Smith, Humphries, Oshodi, R Wilks, Spencer, Simpson.
This weekend sees a big day of action at Redbridge Sports Centre as Essex A chase their 12th consecutive win in Essex Met League Division One against Eclipse A, needing two more victories to make the title a mathematical certainty.
If Essex Open B defeat Eclipse B they will ensure promotion, while Essex Open C will move up from Division Five if they win their match.
The D team are also in the running for promotion from the same division, while Essex Open F will clinch the Division Nine title if they defeat Island III.
Meanwhile, victory for Essex Open G will keep them in the battle for promotion from Division 11.
