Group 5 success for the Wanstead boys

Wanstead put in a dominant performance to dump Plashet Park out of the Group 5 Seeley Trophy.

They drew 19-19 over at East Ham and then finished the job in fine style back on their home green with a thumping 30-6 win.

They will now take on Old Dagenham B in the next round.

In the Walthamstow Thursday league there was a convincing win against top of the table Averling Park, while in the Beckett Trophy they triumphed against South Woodford.

The Ladies had a friendly match away to South Woodford.

The team of Hazel Smith, Eileen Devaney and skip Janet Lee won 19-13, while on the other rink, Jean Batten and her team of Maggie Smith and Paula Nottage and Jean Btten went down by the same score to leave the match as a draw.

In the Cribb Trples against Woodford, Brian Kelly, Peter Cybuch and Paul Studwick got home by four shots, while Mike Cornwell’s rink sneaked home by two.

John Pluck Bob Chandler and Joe Galea went down by two, but Wanstead had done enough for a 5-2 win.

To round off a fine week, Wanstead had an excellent result in the Group 5 Cordell Cup against neighbours Wanstead Central.

DK Sharma, Ron Brown, Bob Lockyer and skip Mike Cornwell had a tight match which saw the score at 13-13 going into the last end, where they managed to pick up a two.

Bob Chandler and his team of Mike Alexander, John Batten and Dave Brackett were in a similar position at 15-15 on the last and picked up a big five to win it.

And to complete the win, Roland Beckett, Joe Galea, Peter Cybuch and skip Bryan Kelly won 17-15 for a great overall victory.
